Mitt Romney

What Mitt Pays

Use our tool to find out how much more you pay in taxes on your income than you would if you enjoyed Romney’s tax rate: a startlingly low 13.9 percent in 2010, lower than many middle-class workers and even many millionaires pay.

Romney also keeps millions in overseas tax havens like Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, so we don’t know what taxes he would have paid if his money were invested in the U.S. But we do know this: If elected, Romney would cut tax rates for people like him even further.

How this works

The figures presented under “His Rate” are the taxes that would be paid by the same family if it paid the same average tax rate as Mitt Romney. Romney is assumed to pay taxes equal to 13.9 percent of his income, based on the rate that Romney paid in 2010, according to documents released by the Romney campaign. These figures were last updated when the Romney campaign released tax documents on January 24, 2012.
